Karen Green Counselling
Caring and Compassionate Counsellor
About me
Natural Health Specialist
I offer counselling to individuals and couples in Wells, Somerset and also via Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp or telephone.

I am a qualified, integrative counsellor, which means I don't just offer one style of counselling, but a tailored approach to suit the needs of the person coming for counselling. Some clients only want to talk, whilst others find it easier to express themselves in other creative ways. Whatever your preference, I am trained and skilled in a wide variety of creative counselling approaches, such as drawing, sandplay and guided visualisation.

I am passionate about the work I do and feel privileged to help others bring peace and balance back into their lives. I know how hard it can be for some people to talk about their feelings and so my approach is warm, compassionate, down-to-earth and non-judgemental. I am very perceptive - my clients often comment on how quickly I can help them identify the underlying issues.

I am a member a professional body for counsellors - the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and I abide by their ethical framework.

I have regular professional supervision to support and monitor my counselling work and I attend continuous professional development events to ensure that my approach is up to date and fresh.
Training and qualifications
In addition to my first degree, I have completed many years of counselling training and achieved formal qualifications of:
- Advanced Diploma in IntegrativeCounselling (Worcester University BACP Accredited course)
- Certificate in Counselling (Coventry University)

I have also completed training in:
- Counselling survivors of sexual abuse
- Tackling Domestic Violence and Abuse
- Sandplay
- Couples counselling

Since I began my training in 1998, I have worked in a
number of counselling centres in the Midlands and the
South West and I have provided counselling for several
church organisations.

Why Counselling?
It can help with
Anxiety, stress & worry
Some level of anxiety is
normal and actually gives us
the impetus to get things done. But when it gets too much we start to suffer - shaking, sleepless nights, churning stomach and sometimes panic attacks are all possible symptoms. Most anxiety and stress comes from a sense of being out of control of something. I can help you understand what's causing your anxiety and how it is affecting you so that you can learn how to regain some control and stop it damaging your life.
Relationships
Relationships are a source of great joy to many people, but can also be a source of great pain when they go wrong. I work with individuals who are struggling with relationships - often romantic relationships but also with friendships, families, children, work colleagues and bosses.

I also work with couples on a range of issues including:
- communication
- affairs and infidelity
- sexual issues
- separation/divorce
- step-family issues
- pornography

Self-esteem and confidence building
For many people, lack of self-confidence originates from when they were young, whereas others lose confidence following a traumatic event or bad experience. This can result in lack of trust in others or ourselves and sometimes excessive shyness and anxiety in social situations. I can help you to identify the origins of self-esteem issues and overcome a lack of confidence.
Depression
Depression can feel like a downward spiral into hopelessness. This is often sparked by a life change such as bereavement, redundancy, retirement, illness or trauma, but sometimes it just happens for no apparent reason. Depression can make you feel lethargic and totally exhausted. Other symptoms include stress, low self-esteem and sometimes self-harm or suicidal thoughts. The good news is that depression can pass and
is rarely a permanent state
and counselling has been
proven to help. I can provide
you with a safe place to acknowledge your feelings rather than denying or burying them and I can help guide you to express what is going on for you.
Grief, loss, bereavement
The death of
someone close
can be a
devastating loss.
There is no 'right' or
'normal' way to grieve,
but people often experience shock, denial and disbelief, anger, guilt, intense sadness and confusion. Often it can feel like the world just isn't real anymore. Grief can go on for years - rekindled by anniversaries, holidays and significant dates. I can help you through such difficult times and to come to terms with your loss, gently and kindly.
Personal development
Since 2012, I’ve helped my clients break through the obstacles that seem to be holding them back in life. Life's too short to be unhappy, unsure, or unfulfilled. I am here to help my clients achieve a more positive outlook on life, and provide them with the tools necessary to get them there. I can help you learn and develop better ways to handle the issues that are standing in the way of your goals.
These are just a few of the sorts of issues that clients bring to
counselling, but there are many more. No problem is too small or too trivial for counselling and I am happy to discuss your needs so that I can tailor my approach to you.
